Coating Thickness XRF 🢂 Foils standards or Hard plated standards
Deciding to use foil standards or hard plated standards, when both are available, is usually determined by your applications:
1. If you need to measure one coating on only one base material, then plated standards would typically be preferred. If    you need to measure the same coatings on several different base materials, then foil standards are usually preferred.
2. Foil standards are preferred for most multilayer applications
3. Plated hard standards are preferred for use with portable XRF instruments.

Examples:
1. You need to measure chromium thickness on various stainless steel alloys. Because stainless steel can have    different amounts of chromium in the base alloy which directly influences XRF measurement of chromium plating, it is    best to purchase chromium foil standards to place directly on a blank sample of stainless steel alloy.
2. Zinc plating is almost always applied to carbon steel base metals for corrosion protection. Therefore, it is more cost    effective to purchase hard plated standards for measurement of zinc on steel since steel is the only base material    found on the samples you will test.
